The Waterside Centre In Action

Run by Berkshire Youth
2 Dec 2021

Cameron Smee (F 07-12) has been involved in the new Waterside Centre in Newbury during its planning phase and now in Communications and Business Strategy as it is now the new centre for Berkshire Youth.

Berkshire Youth help with the transition from childhood to young adulthood, supporting young people to reach their full potential and make a positive contribution to their communities. They help young people through leisure activities, helping them to grow. Many of the young people they work with are vulnerable or disadvantaged and unable to access help elsewhere.

They focus on prevention and helping young people who are missing out, not yet in crisis and who can’t afford what is on offer or face barriers to access: they may have mental health issues, responsibility as a carer or low self-esteem.

The new building in Newbury provides:

A state-of-the-art facility for young local people: a youth club, events and activities programme and a safe space

A community building available for clubs and societies

A valued asset for the Newbury community – encompassing a climbing wall, hall, dance studio and water based activities.

Students at Bradfield are taking part in the Berkshire Youth's Leadership Academy course run by Youth Worker Jessica Kirby and developing their leadership skills to enable them to volunteer as leaders in the future.
