It was an incredible trip down memory lane in early December when Tony Gleed (E 82-86) came back to Bradfield with his friend Olufemi ‘Femi’ Awosika (E 81-86) for a visit. Tony who now works as a Financial Advisor in Berkshire reached out to the Bradfield Society as Femi who has lived for many years in Pennsylvania, USA and working in Medicine was returning to England for a few days. The two of them have been in touch over the years and this is the first time Femi has been back to Bradfield since he left in 1986.
It was a nostalgic visit taking in the new St Andrew’s Study Centre, E House known as Field House in those days, where they both shared a room when the house still had a large dormitory upstairs and before the house became exclusively single or twin-bedded rooms. There was some discussion about the location of the Biology department at the time which is thought to have been where the Science Centre was built in 1994. Femi knew best as he studied more Sciences when he was at Bradfield than Tony who was still traumatised by being selected in the audition for the Choir!
Both Tony and Femi enjoyed seeing the Honours Boards still in E House from their days including names such as Tony Henderson (E 79-84), Greg Nice (E 81-86), Rupert Cox (F 81-86) and William ‘Bill’ Porter (H 81-86).
A chance mention of Phil Clegg (H 82-86) who teaches at Bradfield today and is Head of Sixth Form led to them reuniting with him again over lunch in Main Dining Hall. There they shared happy banter of their time at College, the nicknames of teachers and contemporaries they could remember and having a photo of the 3 of them outside Snake Door (above).
Attaching a picture of E House in 1982 with Femi standing front row on the right and Tony on the back row standing on the left hand side took them back to 42 years ago. These were the days of Sam Hunt and Quentin Edwards as Housemaster and Mabel Beckingham and Pauline Ingan-Jones as Matrons.
We would love to hear from anyone else from E House during the years 1981-86 and what you are up to now?
