Celebrating National Poetry Day

With a poetry tree and readings

The poem below was written especially for National Poetry Day being celebrated on 2 October and we hope that you enjoy it:

On the second day of October’s grace,
Words awaken, take their place—
A symphony of thought and sound,
Where silent truths are softly found.

It’s National Poetry Day at last,
A moment where all lines contrast:
The bold, the tender, the loud, the still—
Each poem shaped by heart and will.

From classroom desk to café stage,
In every book and browser page,
We celebrate the poet’s art—
A voice, a dream, a beating heart.

So write your thoughts, or read aloud,
Let stories soar above the crowd.
In rhyme or rhythm, free or tight—
Your words can set the dark alight.

On Thursday we honour every pen,
The now, the future, and what’s been.
So lift your voice and join the play—
It’s time to shine—it’s Poetry Day!

At Bradfield on Thursday the 2nd of October, all students and classes will be encouraged to celebrate the beauty of the written word and there will be a poetry tree and poetry readings in the English department.

If you have a favourite poem to share we would love to hear it...
