Sporting Jerseys and Ties return to Bradfield

Ties, a sporting jersey and a First XI Football sweater were donations sent to the Bradfield Society office recently by Grahame Thornton (B 55-60). Grahame was in B house during his time at Bradfield, a School Prefect, in the First XI Football team in 1959 and the First XI Hockey team in 1960 before going to Queen's College in Oxford in 1961.

Some of the well-worn ties we had not seen before including: a navy striped B House tie, grey and green stripe Tennis team tie, 1st XI Hockey tie, 1st XI Football tie, JCR tie, an off-white Sunday tie for School Prefects, a black Sunday Tie for House Prefects and an Oxford University OBs tie. It is quite an extraordinary collection!

The other items are the Old Bradfieldian Football Club shirt and a First XI Football sweater with navy blue trim.

Grahame is featured back left on the photograph below of the First XI Football team from 1959 and says he was number 11 in the team and only in it "faux de mieux" (for want of a better alternative). He remembers all the names of all those in the team with him as follows:

Back row: Grahame Thornton (B), Goalkeeper Robert White (B), Mike Seymour (H), Tim Lloyd (A), John Gregory (B), Mike Eaton (F)

Seated front: David Patterson (G), Brian Stevens (G), Captain Jim McLaren (H), Hugh Murphy (C) and Simon Duvivier (B)

Robert Farr (G 52-56) also shared a photograph of the First XI Football team some time ago, which includes one player wearing the football sweater and I have found another footballer wearing the sweater in another picture, but I wonder how many OBs have pictures of themselves wearing any of these items?
