In a tightly contested match on Sunday 8 June 2025, the Bradfield Waifs secured a narrow 13-run victory over the Rugby Meteors. After winning the toss and electing to bat on what looked on the surface to be a decent batting track, the pitch turned out to be a spinner's heaven and Rugby, to their credit, had picked four of them.
The Bradfield Waifs posted what they thought was a marginally below-par score of 168, thanks to a crucial top score of 37 from Finn Brabham, with valuable contributions from Joe Sheldon and Craig S. Williams, who both scored 21. In response, the Waifs' bowlers were clinical in their defence of the total. Nick Murdoch on his debut was the pick of the bowlers, with an impressive 3-23, ably supported by George Bryans (3-30) and Tom Ettridge with a very economical 1-17. Finn was once again the hero, getting the final batter out LBW to secure a 13-run win.
The next game sees the Waifs drawn against Old Hamptonians in the next round of the competition. The match will be played away on Sunday 29th June.
