Bradfield was delighted to hosting a Centenary Golf Day Day for the Old Bradfieldian Golfing Society at the College Golf course this weekend. All ages and abilities were represented at the gathering, from those in their 20s to their 80s as well as several of this years’ Halford Hewitt team. The weather was 50% compliant, wtih sunshine turning to showers for the afternoon's play, but all the attendees appeared to have a good time nonetheless, read Andrew Shilton's account of the day ...
We ran two 9 hole competitions, both for the morning and afternoon with teams of either 3 or 4 counting their best two stableford scores on each hole, in addition there was a prize for nearest the pin on the fifth hole.
The winners in the morning were, Jonny Rafferty (H 03-08) for nearest the pin, and then the team with Trevor Kidson, Matt Ruffell (A 15-20) and Andrew Shilton (C 73-78) on 44 points with Martin Young (C 59-64), Matt McCleery (G 10-15) and Simon McGreal in second place with 43 points. A special prize donated by Robert Winder (D 72-76), was given to Matt McCleery for a gross score of 30.
The winners in the afternoon were, Oscar Fowler for nearest the pin, and then the team with Jonny Rafferty, Andrew Wells (B 60-65), Trevor Kidson and Ed (E) again on 44 points. Two teams came second with 42 points, these were Tim Rhodes (C 64-68), Jack Banton (G11-06), Conor Hepden-Dyer (H 15-20)and Matt McCleery, and then James Strang (C 64-69), Simon McGreal and Andrew Shilton.
We did not have the best weather especially for the afternoon, but we were incredibly well looked after with a lunch of the highest quality. A few well-earned drinks went a long way to keeping spirits up.
Everyone thought the course was in magnificent condition and seems to improve each time we visit, this was a large factor in making it all such an enjoyable day. Thank you to the Sports Complex, Grounds and the Bradfield Society for making the event the success that it was.
