Halford Hewitt 2026

Featured

Golf

There was hope in the air as the Halford Hewitt set off to a good start with a 3.5-1.5 win versus Stoneyhurst in the first round on Thursday 8 April. The back three games all winning 6&5! In the second round we faced Edinburgh Academy and, in a match that could have gone either way, it was Edinburgh who edged it, winning 3–2. Fine margins across all the games, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be this year.

A special thank you to Jeremy Silver (HH 88–93) for stepping in at the last minute to replace an injured Dan Torrance. He’ll never admit it, but Jez continues to play fantastic golf, and his support every year is genuinely appreciated by all the players

In the end victory went to Rossall with a convincing 4-1 victory over Winchester played at Royal Cinque Ports on Sunday 12 April.

Sadly it was not to be for the OBGS in their centenary year, but a massive well done to the 2026 team who played some excellent golf;

Team Captain, Jonny Rafferty (H 03-08)

Angus Creighton (H 15-20) & Tom Watson (D 13-18)

Jonny Rafferty & Dan Torrance (C 01-04)

Jack Beckett (C 03-08) & Aidan Benger (G 15-20)

Matt Ruffell (A 15-20) & Justin Foord (C 00-04)

Adam Williams (E 87-92) & Jamie Gallacher (B 90-95)

Reserve – Jeremy Silver (H 88-93)

The HH team would like to thank all at OBGS, the School, and our supporters, both those who were there in person and those who sent messages, for their kind words before and after the competition; the whole team is extremely grateful.
