OB Spring Matches 2022

OB Ladies Football is back
OB Ladies Football is back

The sun shone brightly this year for the first Spring Matches event since the Covid enforced break in getting together for this fixture.

The College hosted the OB Runners who this year included runners Mike Gush (B 62-67), Jeremy Winter (F 67-72), Dean Makar (C 84-86), Ed Talbot (E 82-87) and Ian Kenyon (F 75-79). Alongside them was Adam Robinson (G 2011-2016) who helped to organise the team alongside current Secretary of the OB Running Club Tony Henderson (E 79-84) who was unable to join us this year due to illness.

The College had a smaller team than usual this year. However, the first runner home was current Sixth Former Jamie Hardwicke who finished the 5.46 mile course in just over 40 minutes, some 2 minutes ahead of the first OB to return who was Dean Makar in 42.33 minutes. Thank you to Ben Adams from the College staff for getting the College running team together.

A former member of staff who came along to support the event was Nick Dorey who was a tutor in E House when it was called Field House and who taught Geography at Bradfield from 1981 to 1984.

Based on the finishing places and the points awarded to each running team the OBs this year finished with 30 points and the College team had 24 points. They were awarded the Bostelmann Trophy by Michael Bostelmann (A 61-66) who returned to Bradfield again to watch the run. Pictures of the runners and the trophy presentation can be seen in the photo gallery below this article.

Due to the imminent ISFA cup final played on Monday 21 March which the college team won 4-0, there was no OB Football game against the College First XI this year. The OB Ladies, however, did have a well fought game against the College First XI who played on New Ground. Sarah Thompson (M 12-14) who now works as a Graduate Assistant at Bradfield said "We had a great game where the OBs & friends won 5-3. It was especially nice to have Phoebe Kime (K 14-19), Charlotte Hill (M 14-19), Fionnhuala Davies (I 16-21), Georgia Lines (M 13-15) & Rosie Woodman (I 18-20) return for the game."

If there are any other OB footballers who would like to join the teams, please do let us know.
