Bradfield Foundation to welcome new Chair: Piers Harris

The Bradfield Foundation has, over the course of many decades, played a vital role in making the College’s ambitious plans both for the estate and pupil bursaries a reality. Foundation trustees have not only been generous donors, but they have also encouraged so many Old Bradfieldians and friends of Bradfield to make gifts to the College.

Recently, gifts made by the Foundation have made possible Bursary support along with the successful conversion of St Andrew’s Church into the St Andrew’s Study Centre and the Health and Wellness Centre, which is now under construction. The generosity of donors to the Foundation has been transformative for Bradfield.

The Council of Bradfield is very grateful to the Foundation trustees, currently John Muir (G 70-75), Paddy Burrowes (G 78-83), Virginia Finegold (Former Parent) and Edward Garrett (F 63-67), for the time and effort that they have spent supporting the College. Particular thanks are due to John Muir, who has chaired the Foundation Board so effectively since 2014 and has been a trustee for 30 years. John has indicated his desire to retire as Chair after dedicating more than a decade to the role.

The College has recently undertaken a review of the Foundation and Bradfield Society Office, which supports the Foundation. The review has sought ways to strengthen the connection between Council, the Foundation and the College’s senior management, with a view to ensuring that the Foundation is best positioned to continue its important work in the years ahead.

As a result of the review I am pleased to announce that Piers Harris, who is a current member of Council, will succeed John Muir as Chair of the Foundation on 1 September 2026. Piers spent three decades at Morgan Stanley, advising leading companies on capital raising and risk management. He has been a parent of a son and two daughters in the College, the youngest of whom left at the end of this term. Piers is looking forward to the challenge of taking the work of the Foundation forward in support of Bradfield.

Both Council and the trustees of the Bradfield Foundation believe that the appointment of Piers Harris and the closer link between Council, the Foundation and the school’s senior management will be very positive for Bradfield as it continues to develop and build upon recent successes.
