We are sorry to hear of the recent passing of Bradfieldian Duncan Hodge (F 53-57) who passed away on 24th November aged 86 years of age. The tribute below is written by fellow Bradfieldian John Miller (F 54-57).

Duncan attended Bradfield College from 1953 to 1957 where he played goalkeeper in the 1st XI Hockey team.  In about 1956/7 he started a long and memorable career at Reading Hockey Club, rising through the teams to the 1st XI.  He quickly earned a reputation as a fearless and highly competitive keeper and a master of the left sided stick save, plus the very quickly taken sixteen yard hit - usually aimed at the rear of the retreating opposition centre forward!  Duncan also did his stint as a successful Berks Boars skipper, introducing the team to the Weymouth Easter festival.  He was an invaluable supporter of the Berkshire County team, adding his own brand of advice from the touch line. Like so many players of his era he descended through the teams, imparting his skills and experience to the younger players in the Rustlers and Vets.

During recent years he became a keen and skilled golfer whilst always retaining his interest in our Club and its welfare.  A regular and keen attendee at the VP Lunches with his wife Kay. He was also a former Bradfield College Golf Club Captain.

There will be a Thanksgiving Service at St Mary the Virgin, Church Lane, Stratfield Mortimer, RG7 3NX on Wednesday 10th December at 12.00 for Duncan.
