Sharing the news that a close friend of Bradfield Michael C Parkinson (H 47-52) passed away on 22 August 2025. Michael followed his father to Bradfield after he attended from 1915 to 1919 and then was followed by his son Anthony who also came to the College.
As a pupil at Bradfield, Michael was in G House from May 1947 - July 1952 and a School Prefect during his time at Bradfield. He was a keen sportsman playing in the Football First XI 1950-51, Captain in 1951 and also in the First XI Cricket team from 1951-52. Mr Sam Hunt who worked alongside Michael at Bradfield said in Michael's Valete when he left the college that "On the football field Michael had tremendous acceleration and a great knack for scoring goals and combining with Dick Chapman made a most effective attack. As a cricketer he was a brilliant fielder and an attacking batsman who could hit a tremendous distance." A keen member of many clubs and activities during his time which also included: Athletics | Boxing | CCF | Choir | Debating Society | Greek Play | Shakespeare | Squash | Swimming. He was one of those talented people who excelled in all sports.
After Bradfield Michael went to Emmanuel College in Cambridge 1954-57 and after graduating worked in industry for a short time before joining Bloxham School as a Schoolmaster in 1959-60. In 1960 he became a member of staff at Bradfield and was noted for giving a great deal of thought to his teaching and insight into local history and archaeology which were his particular interests. When he left in 1986 and moved his family to South Africa, he was Housemaster of The Close.
