We are sad to relay the passing of Sir John Nott, a great advocate for Bradfield who attended the College in the 1940's when the Bradfield experience was characterised by the challenges of existence in post-war Britain. In a recent communication with the Headmaster he stated 'I am proud to be an Old Bradfieldian as it now exists - far from the poor school in my days'

Sir John's book 'Memorable Encounters' including his perspective twenty key figures in post war British history was reviewed in The Bradfieldian in May 2019.

The obituary reported today in The Times briefly references Bradfield

'John William Fredric Nott was born in 1932 in Bromley, the son of Phyllis and Richard, a wealthy rice broker whose family had been professional military men for generations. After Bradfield School he followed family tradition and was commissioned with the Gurkha Rifles and served in Malaya for three years during the Communist insurgency. He then went up to Trinity College, Cambridge in 1956 where he read economics and law. He already had a career in politics in mind...
