After the extravagant Moulin Rouge concert, performed by the Musical Theatre company at Bradfield last half-term, the 8 Upper Sixth cast members were given the incredible opportunity to watch the Broadway show live at Picadilly Circus. Head Girl, Emma (M) shares...
'Once seated in the Grand Circle, the show began. We enjoyed quietly joining in and dancing to the songs we had performed, watching in awe at the talent, control and compassion all involved seemed to carry, and loved the atmosphere and buzz the rest of the crowd contained. The jukebox musical was light-hearted and fun, keeping the audience on their toes as clever one-liners introduced the next mashup of covers. The concept of the Moulin Rouge was exciting and dangerous- encapsulating us into the storyline, evoking emotion and led to cheers from the most unlikely people in our group.
'My particular favourite cover mashups included “Crazy Rolling” and the “Elephant Love Medley”, which was originally a duet between the two protagonists and their forbidden love, but slowly grew into a song involving the entire cast. Whilst the harmonies within “Chandelier” and Christian’s voice in “El Tango de Roxanne” were true displays of how incredible singing in Musical theatre can be.
'I, alongside many others of our clan, envied those performing. We reminisced in the fun and laughter that our performance had brought to not only us, but the Bradfield community who all seemed to love it. The Upper Sixth who have given so much to Bradfield’s Musical Theatre witnessed true mastery of something we all adore, and even though none of us plan to go into such a competitive industry – I wouldn’t be too sure just yet…
Many thanks to the Richard Osborne Music Trip Fund sponsored by John Lyon (C 65-69) for this magical experience.'
