Bradfieldian Stories |
We are excited to release our fifth My Bradfield video profiling the wonderful Hattie Pearson (K 03-08), the first girl to complete the full five years at Bradfield. Whilst Bradfield started its formal transition to co-education with the opening of Sixth Form girls’ houses from 1989 to 1995, Hattie was one of a small number of junior girls to study at Bradfield before the opening of a junior girls’ house in 2006. Hattie was pragmatic about being in one of two junior girls in her first year and in an interview shortly after joining said ‘So much emphasis has been placed upon me being in the minority but it hasn’t concerned me in any way. Now I’m just looking forward to being part of Bradfield and enjoying the next five years here’. Hattie was to pave the way for the subsequent generations of junior girls and Bradfield looks forward to celebrating 20 years as a fully co-educational school in 2026.
Being in the minority as a junior girl did however require a certain mindset and a fair amount of resilience, which fortunately Hattie has in bundles and maybe it's no surprise that she is now thriving in her recently discovered passion for ultra-sports.
Professionally, Hattie is a DJ for Hits Radio, she joked to say that she manages to fit this in alongside her intensive training programme for the Monster Triathlon in June. She is also an event DJ and has her own Club Night, Girls on Film, which she established 10 years ago and is still going strong. Another passion that she has maintained since Bradfield is that for the bassoon, which her mum encouraged her to take up to secure a Music scholarship and bursary and Hattie still plays for the Manchester Wind Orchestra.
