Obituaries

Edmond ‘Nigel’ Thomas (A 52-57) passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday 23rd November 2025 with his children at his side. Nigel attended Bradfield from 1952–1957 and will probably be best remembered as a fine off-spinner who represented the 1st XI for three years. After school he completed two years of National Service before starting work with Bowater Scott [later Scott UK] as a sales representative. He remained with the company for the duration of a distinguished career, rising to Managing Director UK of what was by then the biggest branded paper business in Europe, before retiring in his late 50s.

He was married to his beloved Angela for over 57 years before she passed in April 2024. He leaves three children Nick, Lucy, and Susie, as well as seven Grandchildren all of whom adored him. Apart from his family, Nigel’s passions included cricket and horse racing. He continued playing cricket after school including for MCC, and as a Surrey member spent many happy days at the Oval supporting the county and England. Post-retirement he partly-owned two racehorses, and it was a mark of the man that after they were injured, he opted to pay for their rehabilitation. Nigel will be remembered as a true gentleman and devoted family man. He missed Angela terribly after she passed and we hope that they are now reunited.
