The first history of Bradfield published since A.F. Leach's book in 1900. It gives a dramatic account of the school's ups and downs, character and fortunes, of the many remarkable personalities who have served it and of events serious and amusing.

John Blackie was at Bradfield from 1918 - 1922. He became a School Prefect, Captain of Running, Secretary of the Scientific Society and Denning English Prizeman. at Magdalene College, Cambridge he read English and Modern Languages. After a year's teaching in the USA, he joined the SCR and taught in the Sixth Form as well as becoming Athletics Coach. In 1933 he was appointed to the H.M. Inspectorate of Schools until he retired in 1966 and wrote a number of books on educational topics.
