We were thrilled to be asked by Old Bradfieldian James Butler (C 80-85) who was returning to visit Bradfield from Australia recently, if he could fish again on the Pang for old times sake. The Bradfield Society were pleased to organise a fishing permit for him through the College Bursary, something that 17 other local anglers regularly do along the Bradfield section of the Pang. James very much enjoyed himself walking from the Iron Bridge upstream to the Rectory stretch and was amazed by how the vegetation had regenerated all along the river since he last saw it in 1989!

He also reported that the Mayflies were hatching and was pleased to see this amazing natural event, having heard that they were in decline on England's chalkstreams. James managed to catch 10 good fish over 1lb in weight which he returned to the river during the afternoon. See James's photograph and one of the fish below.

James said: "as I was, the students are very fortunate to have such a unique resource and refuge within the College".
